What Happened During the Battle?

The English ships, led by Captain Richard Badiley, were trying to get to a port called Livorno. Another English group of ships, led by Captain Henry Appleton, was stuck there. The Dutch ships were blocking them.

During the fight, the Dutch ship Jaarsveld captured the English ship Phoenix. The other English warships had to retreat to Porto Longone to be safe. However, the Phoenix was later taken back by the English in a surprise night attack at Livorno, about two months later.
