The Bautzen district (also known as Wokrjes Budyšin in Sorbian) is a region in the Free State of Saxony, a part of Germany. It's a place with a rich history and a mix of towns and villages.
This district was formed in 1994 by combining two older districts, Bautzen and Bischofswerda. Later, in 2008, the independent city of Hoyerswerda and the former district of Kamenz also joined, making the Bautzen district even bigger.
What is the Coat of Arms of Bautzen?
The Bautzen district has a special symbol called a coat of arms. It looks just like the old coat of arms of Upper Lusatia, which was a historical region.
This coat of arms was first given around 1350. That's when six towns in Upper Lusatia decided to work together. This group of towns later became known as a "margravate" in 1378, thanks to the kings of Bohemia. A margravate was a special border region ruled by a margrave, a type of count or noble.
Towns and Villages in Bautzen
The Bautzen district is home to many different towns and smaller communities. These places include larger towns like Bautzen, Hoyerswerda, and Kamenz.
There are also many smaller municipalities, which are like villages or groups of villages. These communities help make up the diverse landscape of the district. Each town and village has its own unique character and history.
