History of Beaulieu
Early Beginnings and Post Office
The community of Beaulieu got its name from John Beaulieu. He was the local postmaster, which is the person in charge of a post office. A post office was first opened here in 1891. It helped people send and receive mail for many years. The post office stayed open until 1960.
Wild Rice River School
From 1884 to 1915, a school called the Wild Rice River Boarding and Day School was in Beaulieu. This was an American Indian residential school. These schools were set up to educate Native American children.

Where is Beaulieu Located?
Beaulieu is in the middle part of Mahnomen County. It is located just north of Minnesota State Highway 200. The community of Midway is right across the highway to the south.
Townships and Nearby Areas
Beaulieu is split between two different areas called townships. The eastern part of Beaulieu is in Beaulieu Township. The western part is in Chief Township. The center of Beaulieu is about 0.8 miles (1.3 km) north of Highway 200. This road is called County Road 3 or 220th Avenue.
Highway 200 is an important road for the area. If you go west on Highway 200 for about 8 miles (13 km), you will reach Mahnomen. Mahnomen is the main town and county seat for Mahnomen County. If you go east on Highway 200 for about 12 miles (19 km), you will find Roy Lake.
Land and Water
The Beaulieu area covers about 3.9 square miles (10.1 km²). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.03 square miles (0.07 km²), is water. The Wild Rice River flows through the community. This river flows west towards Mahnomen. Eventually, it reaches the Red River near the North Dakota state line.
