Beibeilong is an extinct type of dinosaur. It lived a very long time ago, during the Cretaceous Period. This dinosaur looked a bit like an oviraptor, which was a bird-like dinosaur.
The full name of this dinosaur is Beibeilong sinensis. Scientists named it in 2017. They found something very special: a nest with a dinosaur embryo inside! This baby dinosaur was nicknamed "Baby Louie."

Discovering Beibeilong
The discovery of Beibeilong was very exciting. It was found in a fossilized nest of eggs. Inside one of these eggs was a tiny dinosaur embryo. This embryo was given the nickname "Baby Louie."
- Scientists found the nest in Henan province, China.
- The nest contained many large, oval-shaped eggs.
- The embryo, "Baby Louie," was still curled up inside its egg.
Finding an embryo is rare and important. It helps scientists learn how dinosaurs grew. It also shows how they might have laid their eggs.
What "Baby Louie" Teaches Us
"Baby Louie" is one of the largest dinosaur embryos ever found. It was about 38 centimeters (15 inches) long. The egg it was in was about 45 centimeters (18 inches) long.
- This discovery helped scientists understand Beibeilong.
- It showed that this dinosaur laid very large eggs.
- The embryo looked like a baby oviraptorosaur.
Scientists believe Beibeilong was a very big dinosaur. It might have been as large as Gigantoraptor. Gigantoraptor was a huge, bird-like dinosaur. It could be up to 8 meters (26 feet) long!
Where Beibeilong Lived
Beibeilong lived in Asia during the Late Cretaceous period. This was about 90 million years ago. The area where its nest was found was likely a wetland or a lakeside.
- Many dinosaurs lived in Asia during this time.
- The climate was warm and humid.
- There were many plants for herbivores to eat.
Beibeilong was an oviraptorosaur. These dinosaurs had beaks instead of teeth. Some ate plants, some ate meat, and some ate both. Scientists are still learning what Beibeilong ate.
