Belmiro Mendes de Azevedo (born February 17, 1938 – died November 29, 2017) was a very successful Portuguese businessman. He was known as an entrepreneur, which means he started and managed businesses. In 2008, he was ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the richest people in the world. He was also the third richest person in Portugal.
Belmiro de Azevedo owned a big part of Sonae SGPS. This is one of the largest business groups in Portugal. Sonae also has businesses in other countries like Spain, Greece, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Brazil.

About Belmiro de Azevedo
Belmiro de Azevedo was born in Marco de Canaveses. His father was a carpenter and his mother was a tailor. He studied chemical engineering at the University of Porto. He also earned a special business degree called an MBA from Harvard University in the United States.
Sonae: A Big Business Group

Belmiro de Azevedo was married to Maria Margarida Carvalhais Teixeira. They had three children together. His son, Duarte Paulo Teixeira de Azevedo, later took over his father's role in the company. His other son, Nuno Miguel Teixeira de Azevedo, also joined the family business.
Belmiro de Azevedo passed away in Porto on November 29, 2017.
