High School Days
Ben Wells grew up in Beaumont, Texas. He went to Ozen High School. He was a very talented athlete there. Ben played football, basketball, and also ran track and field.
In football, he was a top player. During his senior year, he was named first-team all-state. This means he was one of the best players in Texas for his age group. He even played in a special game called the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in 2007.
Ben started his high school football career as a wide receiver. This position catches passes. But in his junior year, he switched to playing defense. He was ranked as one of the best players in the country in 2007.
College Football Career
After high school, Ben went to the University of Texas. He played for the Texas Longhorns football team in 2008 and 2009. In 2007, he was "redshirted." This means he practiced with the team but didn't play in any games. It helps players develop their skills.
Later, Ben transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University. He played for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks from 2010 to 2011.
Playing Pro Football
After finishing college, Ben hoped to play professional football. He was not chosen in the 2012 NFL Draft. However, the Washington Redskins of the National Football League (NFL) signed him on April 29, 2012.
Ben then signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League (CFL). This happened on May 13, 2013. He played with them for a while. The Alouettes released him on June 11, 2014.
Later that year, on September 25, 2014, Ben signed with the Arizona Rattlers. This team plays in the Arena Football League (AFL). He played for the Rattlers until March 22, 2016, when he was placed on reassignment.
