Plot Summary
This movie is about a video game expert named Quincy. He faces a big challenge. He needs to win a gaming tournament to save his home.
Quincy's Big Plan
Quincy Johnson (Jerry Trainor) is a grown-up who loves video games. He lives with his parents. Quincy is known as "Q" in the gaming world. He has won many awards and set world records.
But his parents decide to sell their house. This means Quincy needs to find a new home. Quincy wants to buy the house himself. He needs $175,000 to do this. He plans to get the money from a video game tournament. The game is called "Black Hole." The grand prize is exactly $175,000!
Quincy talks about his problem with his biggest fan, Wendell (Amir Talai). While practicing for the tournament, Quincy finds a player he cannot beat. This player is named "Prodigy." Quincy and Wendell decide to find out who Prodigy is. They want to make sure Quincy can win the tournament.
Meeting Prodigy
Wendell drives Quincy to Prodigy's house. Quincy is surprised to learn that "Prodigy" is a high school girl. Her name is Christina Saunders (Jennette McCurdy), or "Chris" for short. Chris thinks Quincy is her mom Tracy's (Janet Varney) internet date.
Quincy pretends to be a home economics teacher at Chris's school. Tracy tells Chris that if she gets any more bad grades, she cannot play video games. The next day, Wendell arranges for Quincy to actually teach at Chris's school. Quincy and Wendell try to make Chris fail her science project. This would stop her from playing in the tournament. But their plan goes wrong. Chris gets a great grade! She then tells Quincy she will win the $175,000 prize.
Quincy tries to get Chris to go to prom. The prom is on the same day as the tournament. No one wants to take her except Sheldon (Nick Benson). Sheldon has a secret crush on Chris. Quincy tries to help Sheldon impress Chris. But Chris likes another boy named Ash (Jean-Luc Bilodeau).
The Tournament Showdown
Later, on a field trip to an arcade, Ash asks Chris to prom. Chris is very happy. She tells Quincy and Tracy that she will miss the tournament. Quincy tells her there will be other tournaments. But then Chris sees Quincy on a video game magazine cover. She realizes he tricked her.
Chris gets angry and decides to "destroy" Quincy at the tournament. She even turns down Ash's prom invitation. Tracy finds out the truth and asks Quincy to leave. Wendell then tells Quincy he is also in the tournament. He kicks Quincy out of his house for choosing Tracy over gaming.
The next day, Quincy, Wendell, and Chris all win their first rounds. Sheldon (now called "Shell-Shock") also shows up. Quincy tells Tracy he cares about her. But Wendell makes everyone think it's just "smack talk" for the game. This embarrasses Tracy.
In the final round, Wendell asks Quincy to team up against Chris. Quincy pretends to attack Chris. But then he works with her to defeat Wendell. In the end, Quincy and Wendell knock each other out of the game. Chris seems to be the winner. But the game is not over! Sheldon, who everyone thought was out, comes back. He defeats Chris to win the whole game!
Ash comes to congratulate Chris, even though she didn't win. He still wants to go to prom with her. Quincy says sorry to Tracy. He asks her to prom, and she says yes! They dance to the song "Big Night" by Big Time Rush. The ending credits show prom photos of everyone.
Note: The band Big Time Rush also has another song, "City Is Ours," featured in the arcade scene.
