Gerald William "Jerry" Trainor (born January 21, 1977) is an American actor. He is famous for playing "Crazy" Steve in Drake & Josh and Spencer Shay in iCarly. Both shows were on Nickelodeon. He also returned as Spencer in the iCarly revival series on Paramount+.

Jerry has won three Kids' Choice Awards for his acting. He also voiced Dudley Puppy in T.U.F.F. Puppy, which earned him a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. Since 2004, Jerry has mostly worked with Nickelodeon. He has also appeared in shows on the Disney Channel and Netflix.

His Early Life and School

Jerry Trainor was born Gerald William Trainor on January 21, 1977. He grew up in San Diego, California. His dad, Bill Trainor, was a Navy pilot and a lawyer. His mom, Madelyn Trainor, was a high school math teacher. Jerry has an older sister named Liz. His family background includes Irish, Croatian, and German roots.

He went to high school in the Scripps Ranch area of San Diego. Later, he studied drama at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned a special degree in fine arts there. Jerry also learned improvisation at The Groundlings school in Los Angeles. Before becoming a famous actor, he worked at San Diego SeaWorld.

..... He also appeared in shows like Malcolm in the Middle and Angel. His first regular role was as Brian, the "A.V. guy," on Crossing Jordan. He had small parts in movies too, such as Donnie Darko and Bring It On Again.

From 2004 to 2007, Jerry had a recurring role on Drake & Josh. He played "Crazy Steve," a funny movie theater worker. Then, from 2007 to 2012, he starred in iCarly as Spencer Shay. Spencer was the older brother and guardian of the main character, Carly, played by Miranda Cosgrove. Jerry and Miranda had worked together before on Drake & Josh. For his role in iCarly, Jerry won three Kids' Choice Awards.

Jerry also voiced Dudley Puppy in the animated series T.U.F.F. Puppy. This role earned him a nomination for a Daytime Emmy Award. In 2011, he starred with his iCarly co-star Jennette McCurdy in the Nickelodeon TV movie Best Player. He played Quincy Johnson, a video game expert.

In 2013, Jerry starred in the show Wendell & Vinnie as Vinnie. Vinnie was the uncle and guardian of a character named Wendell. He also voiced Commander Cone in Bunsen Is a Beast in 2017.

Since 2018, Jerry and Mike O'Gorman have a comedy web series called The Porch on YouTube. In March 2021, it was announced that iCarly was coming back. The new series started on Paramount+ in June 2021. Jerry returned as Spencer Shay in this revival.

His Music Career

In October 2015, Jerry Trainor started a band called Nice Enough People. He plays bass guitar in the band. The other members are Mike O'Gorman (guitar and vocals), Andrew Zuber (drums), and Allison Scagliotti (guitar). Allison also acted with Jerry in Drake & Josh. The band released their first EP, Hanover Hideaway, on June 22, 2016.
