Gerald William "Jerry" Trainor (born January 21, 1977) is an American actor and musician. He is famous for playing funny characters on TV. You might know him as "Crazy Steve" from Drake & Josh. He also played Spencer Shay in the popular show iCarly and its new version.
Jerry Trainor has won three Kids' Choice Awards for his acting. He also uses his voice for cartoon characters. He was the voice of Dudley Puppy in T.U.F.F. Puppy. He has mostly worked with the Nickelodeon TV network since 2004.

Early Life and Education
Jerry Trainor was born and grew up in San Diego, California. His dad, Bill Trainor, was a Navy pilot. His mom, Madelyn Trainor, was a high school math teacher. Jerry has an older sister named Liz. His family comes from Ireland, Croatia, and Germany.
He went to high school in San Diego. Then, he studied drama at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He earned a special degree in fine arts there. He also learned how to do improvisation (acting without a script) in Los Angeles. Before becoming an actor, he worked at SeaWorld in San Diego.
Acting Career Highlights
Jerry Trainor has been in many TV shows and movies. One of his first regular TV roles was as Brian, the "A.V. guy," on Crossing Jordan. He also had small parts in movies like Donnie Darko and Bring It On Again.
Playing "Crazy Steve" and Spencer Shay
From 2004 to 2007, Jerry Trainor played "Crazy Steve" on Drake & Josh. Steve worked at a movie theater and was known for being very funny.
Then, from 2007 to 2012, he starred in iCarly. He played Spencer Shay, the older brother and guardian of the main character, Carly. Carly was played by Miranda Cosgrove. Jerry and Miranda had worked together before on Drake & Josh. For his role in iCarly, Jerry won three Kids' Choice Awards.
Voice Acting and Other Roles
Jerry Trainor is also a talented voice actor. He was the voice of Dudley Puppy in the animated series T.U.F.F. Puppy. He was even nominated for an award for this role.
He also starred with his iCarly co-star Jennette McCurdy in the Nickelodeon TV movie Best Player. In this movie, he played Quincy Johnson, a video game expert.
In 2013, Jerry starred in the show Wendell & Vinnie. He played Vinnie, an uncle who became the guardian of his nephew, Wendell. Since 2018, Jerry and Mike O'Gorman have made a comedy web series called The Porch on YouTube.
The Return of iCarly
In March 2021, it was announced that iCarly was coming back! The new series started in June 2021 on Paramount+. Jerry Trainor returned to play Spencer Shay again.

Music Career
In October 2015, Jerry Trainor started a band called Nice Enough People. He plays bass guitar in the band. The other members are Mike O'Gorman (guitar and vocals), Andrew Zuber (drums), and Allison Scagliotti (guitar). Allison Scagliotti also acted with Jerry in Drake & Josh. The band released their first music, called Hanover Hideaway, in 2016.
