Carly's best friends are Sam Puckett, Freddie Benson, and Gibby Gibson. Freddie lives in the same apartment building as Carly.

In the first episode, "iPilot", Carly and Sam get in trouble at school. As punishment, Carly has to help with the school talent show. When their ideas are ignored, Freddie suggests they create their own web show called iCarly. The 'i' stands for 'Internet', and Carly is the host.

Carly is a good student and usually gets high grades. She is kind and easygoing, always trying to see the best in people. Even though she is younger, she often acts more grown-up than her brother, Spencer.

Freddie has a crush on Carly, but she sees him only as a friend. In "iSaved Your Life", Carly briefly wants to be more than friends with Freddie after he saves her from a truck.
