Daniel James Schneider (born January 14, 1966) is an American television producer, screenwriter, and actor. He is well-known for creating and producing many popular children's shows on Nickelodeon. These shows aired from 1994 to 2019. After 2018, his partnership with Nickelodeon ended due to concerns that were raised.
Schneider started his career as an actor in the 1980s. He appeared in teen comedy films like Making the Grade (1984) and Better Off Dead (1985). On TV, he played Dennis Blunden in the sitcom Head of the Class (1986–1991). In 1996, he co-founded his production company, Schneider's Bakery.
He later focused on children's television, especially for Nickelodeon. He began as a writer and producer for shows such as All That (1994–2005) and Kenan & Kel (1996–2000). Then, he created The Amanda Show (1999–2002). Schneider became famous for creating and producing many hit shows. These include Drake & Josh (2004–2007), Zoey 101 (2005–2008), iCarly (2007–2012), and Victorious (2010–2013). He also created Sam & Cat (2013–2014), Henry Danger (2014–2020), and Game Shakers (2015–2019). Schneider also wrote and acted in the movie Good Burger (1997). He also wrote and helped produce the film Big Fat Liar (2002).
After his partnership with Nickelodeon ended, Schneider took a break. Later, he talked about writing a new TV show for adults.

Early Life and Beginnings
Daniel James Schneider was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on January 14, 1966. His parents were Harry and Carol Schneider. In high school, he enjoyed theater and was the senior class president. After high school, he repaired computers in Memphis. Soon after, he moved to Los Angeles to work in the entertainment business.
Career Journey
Early Acting Roles (1984–1994)
In the 1980s, Schneider had small roles in several movies. These included teen comedies like Making the Grade (1984) and Better Off Dead (1985). He also appeared in Hot Resort (1985) and Happy Together (1989). In 1986, he started playing Dennis Blunden on the ABC sitcom Head of the Class. This show ran for five seasons until 1991. In 1993, he starred in the series Home Free.
Schneider co-hosted the 1988 Kids' Choice Awards. There, he met Albie Hecht, a Nickelodeon executive. Schneider has also made guest appearances in many TV shows he helped create. These include All That, Good Burger, Kenan & Kel, The Amanda Show, Zoey 101, iCarly, and Henry Danger. He has also done voice acting for various projects.
Nickelodeon Success (1993–2019)
In 1993, Albie Hecht, who was now in charge of production at Nickelodeon, hired Schneider. Hecht wanted Schneider to work on a new sketch-comedy show for kids called All That. Schneider wrote the first episode and then worked as a producer and writer for the show.
After four seasons, Schneider left All That to create The Amanda Show (1999–2002). This show starred Amanda Bynes. Schneider often appeared on The Amanda Show as a funny old man. In 2001, Nickelodeon asked Schneider to help bring All That back. He agreed, and All That returned in 2002. It ran for four more seasons, ending in 2005.
From 1996 to 1997, Schneider was a producer and writer for Kenan & Kel. This show starred Keenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. Schneider also wrote the 1997 movie Good Burger, which starred Kenan and Kel. The movie was based on a popular sketch from All That.
Schneider returned to Nickelodeon in 2004 with the show Drake & Josh. The show starred Drake Bell and Josh Peck, who had been on The Amanda Show. It also featured Miranda Cosgrove, who would later star in iCarly. While working on Drake & Josh and iCarly, Schneider also created Zoey 101. This show starred Jamie Lynn Spears. Schneider even made a guest appearance in the Zoey 101 finale.
After Zoey 101 ended in 2008, Schneider started a new project for actress Victoria Justice. This show, Victorious, premiered in 2010. It starred Justice, Ariana Grande, and others. In 2013, a spin-off show called Sam & Cat combined characters from iCarly and Victorious.
After Sam & Cat was canceled, Schneider co-created Henry Danger with Dana Olsen. This show premiered in 2014. The next year, Schneider created Game Shakers, which reunited him with actor Kel Mitchell.
On March 26, 2018, Nickelodeon announced that they would not continue their partnership with Schneider. His show Game Shakers was not renewed. His other show, Henry Danger, continued with a new person in charge.
Future Projects (2020–Present)
After a three-year break, Schneider shared that he was working on new projects. He mentioned writing a new TV show pilot that he sold to a different network. He said this new show is for an adult audience, different from his past work for kids.
Personal Life
Schneider met food blogger Lisa Lillien at Nickelodeon in the 1990s. They got married in 2002. They lived in Los Angeles and later bought a large home in Hidden Hills, California. Schneider shared in 2021 that he had lost over 100 pounds (45 kg) since leaving Nickelodeon.
Awards and Recognitions
Dan Schneider has received several awards and nominations for his work in children's television.
- In 2000, The Amanda Show won the Best Short Comedy award at the Burbank International Children's Film Festival.
- His shows Zoey 101, iCarly, and Victorious were nominated for Outstanding Children's Program multiple times.
