The Bible Lands Museum (Hebrew: מוזיאון ארצות המקרא ירושלים) is an exciting archaeological museum located in Jerusalem. This museum helps you discover the cultures of ancient peoples mentioned in the Bible. You can learn about groups like the ancient Egyptians, Canaanites, Philistines, Arameans, Hittites, Elamites, Phoenicians, and Persians.

The museum's main goal is to show how these different groups lived and fit into history. It is found in a special area of Jerusalem called Museum Row. Here, it sits near other important places like the Israel Museum and the Bloomfield Science Museum.

Discovering Ancient History

The Bible Lands Museum was started in 1992 by a person named Elie Borowski. He wanted to share his amazing collection of ancient art and objects from the Near East. These items came from the times mentioned in the Bible.

How the Museum Started

Elie Borowski visited Jerusalem in 1981. There, he met Batya Weiss, who encouraged him to bring his collection to Israel. She helped him connect with the mayor of Jerusalem, Teddy Kollek. Elie listened to her advice. He built the Bible Lands Museum and moved his collection from a museum in Toronto to Jerusalem. Elie and Batya later got married.

What Can You See at the Museum?

The main part of the museum has hundreds of cool artifacts. These include old documents, statues, coins, weapons, pottery, and seals. They come from all over the ancient Near East.

Exploring the Exhibits

Many topics are explained with short articles on the walls. You can learn about how the alphabet started or how ancient people preserved bodies. There are also models of old places in Jerusalem. You can even see a model of a Ziggurat (a huge temple tower) from the city of Ur and the famous pyramids at Giza.

While the museum focuses on ancient civilizations, it also connects these findings to the Bible. For example, above a display of ancient jugs, you might see a Bible verse. It says, "Behold, Rebecca came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the fountain and drew water" (Genesis 24:45).
