Bijelo Polje (which means 'white field' in Montenegrin) is a town in Montenegro. It is located in the northern part of the country, right by the Lim River. In 2011, about 12,900 people lived in the town itself. Bijelo Polje is a very important place for northern Montenegro. Ancient Writings and World War II
Bijelo Polje has a rich history. A very old and important book called the Miroslav's Gospel was written here. This book is so special that it is protected by UNESCO. It was created in the Saint Peter and Paul Church in Bijelo Polje. The Gospel was written by Miroslav, who was the brother of a Serbian ruler named Stefan Nemanja.
During World War II, Bijelo Polje played a big role. It was a key spot for people who fought against fascism. This movement was strong across Yugoslavia, especially in Montenegro.
