William B. Frank, Jr. was a famous football player. He was born on April 13, 1938. He played as an offensive tackle, which means he helped protect his team's quarterback. Early Life and College Football
Bill Frank went to West High School in Denver. After high school, he attended San Diego Junior College in 1959. While there, he was named to the junior college All-American team. This means he was one of the best players in junior college football.
Later, he transferred to the University of Colorado. He played college football there. He was even named to Colorado's all-time all-star team. Besides football, he also practiced wrestling.
Playing Professional Football
Bill Frank had a long and successful career in professional football. He played for 15 years in the CFL. He also had a brief time in the NFL.
Starting with the BC Lions
Frank began his CFL career in 1962 with the BC Lions. He was part of the team that played in the 1963 Grey Cup. The Grey Cup is the championship game of the CFL. During his time with the Lions, he played both offense and defense.
Time with the Dallas Cowboys
In 1963, Frank was chosen by two NFL teams. The Dallas Cowboys picked him in the NFL Draft. The San Diego Chargers also picked him in the AFL Draft. Since he was already playing in the CFL, it was complicated for him to join an NFL team.
He joined the Cowboys in 1964. He played in four games as a backup player. After that, he returned to the CFL.
Playing for the Argonauts and Blue Bombers
In 1965, Frank signed with the Toronto Argonauts. He played his first game with them very quickly. He joined the team right after arriving from the airport.
In 1968, he was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He played for the Blue Bombers until 1976. He was a very important player for them. Frank was chosen as an All-Star seven times during his career. This means he was recognized as one of the best players in the league.
He was also named to the Argonauts' "quarter-century team." He was part of the Blue Bombers' "all-time dream team." In 2006, he was voted one of the CFL's Top 50 players of the modern era. This was a big honor for him.
Personal Life
Before his football career, Bill Frank spent four years serving in the United States Marine Corps. On June 26, 2014, he passed away peacefully at his home. He was living in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada, at the time.
