William Scott Prady (born June 7, 1960) is an American writer and producer for television. He is best known for helping create and produce the popular TV show The Big Bang Theory (which ran from 2007 to 2019). He also co-created The Muppets TV series (2015–2016). Bill Prady has worked as an executive producer on other well-known shows like Dharma & Greg and Gilmore Girls.

Early Life and First Steps
Bill Prady was born in Detroit, Michigan. He went to Cranbrook Schools and then attended Wayne State University. However, he left college and moved to New York City. There, he worked at a store called RadioShack. During this time, he helped create a computer program called FilePro for a type of early computer called the TRS-80 microcomputer.
Career in Television
Starting with The Muppets
In 1983, Bill Prady began working as a production assistant for The Jim Henson Company. This company is famous for creating the Muppets. He stayed with the company and worked in their merchandising department, which handles products like toys and clothes.
With encouragement from Jim Henson himself, Bill Prady started writing for Muppet projects. He wrote for shows like Fraggle Rock: The Animated Series and The Jim Henson Hour. In 1991, he was nominated for an Emmy Award for co-writing The Muppets Celebrate Jim Henson. He also wrote for popular Disney theme park attractions, including Muppet*Vision 3D and Honey, I Shrunk the Audience.
Working on Sitcoms
In 1995, Prady joined the writing team for the HBO series Dream On. Two years later, in 1997, he started writing for Dharma & Greg. He eventually became an executive producer and took charge of the show in 2001.
He also worked as a writer and producer on many other TV shows. These include Good Morning, Miami, Caroline in the City, Related, Platypus Man, and Gilmore Girls.
Creating The Big Bang Theory
A big moment in Bill Prady's career came in 2007. He co-created the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory. This show became incredibly popular and ran for twelve seasons. Prady was an executive producer for the entire run of the show.
Later Projects and Teaching
In 2012, Bill Prady started teaching at the University of Southern California. He became a faculty member in their cinematic arts school, sharing his knowledge with students.
In 2015, it was announced that a new version of The Muppet Show was being developed by ABC, with Prady involved. More recently, in 2020, Prady signed a deal with Netflix to create new TV series for them. In 2022, he made a similar agreement with Warner Bros. Television to develop more shows through his company, Pine Tree Entertainment.
Personal Life
Bill Prady is Jewish and is also on the autism spectrum.
In 2003, he was one of many people who ran for Governor of California. He received 474 votes in that election.
Prady has received several honors for his work and contributions. In 2010, he became an honorary member of the Royal Canadian Institute for the Advancement of Science. In 2013, NASA gave him their Exceptional Public Achievement Medal. He has also served as a trustee for the Humanitas Prize "New Voices" program, which helps new writers. In 2022, Wayne State University awarded him an honorary degree.
In 2020, Bill Prady made a small appearance in the movie Bill & Ted Face the Music.
