Blackdown Hill is a noticeable hill in the county of Dorset, in the southwest of England. It stands about 215 metres (705 ft) (or about 705 feet) tall. You can find it about 5 miles (8.0 km) southwest of the town of Crewkerne.

This hill is special because it has a "prominence" of 34 metres (112 ft). This means it rises at least 34 metres (112 ft) above the land around it. Because of this, Blackdown Hill is listed as one of the "Tumps". A Tump is a hill that stands out from its surroundings by a certain height. The hill runs next to the B3165 road. It looks over the village of Blackdown and the small group of houses called Kittwhistle. These places are at the bottom of the hill's eastern side.

Exploring Blackdown Hill

The very top of Blackdown Hill is an open area. It sits at the northern end of a long ridge that stretches for about a mile from north to south. This ridge is a great place for walking and exploring.

The Jubilee Trail

A famous walking path called the Jubilee Trail goes along the top of this ridge. It's a fun way to see the views from Blackdown Hill. After a while, the trail drops down slightly to the west. Then, it goes steeply down a part of the hill called Venn Hill. This path leads towards the village of Thorncombe. Thorncombe is on the other side of the River Synderford, which flows past the western side of Blackdown Hill.

Nearby Landmarks

About 2 miles (3.2 km) to the southeast of Blackdown Hill is another important hill called Pilsdon Pen. Pilsdon Pen is even taller, at 277 metres (909 ft). For a long time, people thought Pilsdon Pen was the highest point in Dorset. To the east of Blackdown Hill, you'll find the Temple Brook. This small stream starts in the low area between Blackdown Hill and Pilsdon Pen.
