The Blaiklock River is named after Frederic William Blaiklock (1822-1901). He was a surveyor. A surveyor is someone who measures and maps land.
Frederic William Blaiklock was born in Quebec City. He was the first to measure the land in the Ashuapmushuan River valley. This area is north of Lac Saint-Jean. He also mapped out two roads leading to Lac Saint-Jean.
From 1850 to 1853, he surveyed the borders between Canada and New Brunswick. For 23 years, he worked at the Cadastre Office in Montreal. This office keeps records of land ownership.
The name "Blaiklock River" was officially approved in 1953. The Commission de toponymie du Québec made the name official on December 5, 1968. This commission is in charge of place names in Quebec.
