Blairsville is a small town, called a borough, in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. It is located about 42 miles east of Pittsburgh, right by the Conemaugh River. In 2020, about 3,252 people lived there.

Discovering Blairsville's Past
Blairsville was first settled in 1818 and officially became a borough in 1825. In the past, many people worked in places like railway shops, foundries, and factories that made things like glass and lumber.
Early Education and Community Help
Blairsville was once home to Blairsville College. This was a Presbyterian school that opened in 1851. The area also played an important role in the Underground Railroad around 1858. Local families, including the Mitchells and Van Leer Family, helped people find freedom. A local geologist named Peter Lesley even wrote that over 3,000 men in the area were helping the "railroad."
Historic Landmarks and Notable People
Two important buildings in Blairsville are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These are the Blairsville Armory and St. Peter's Episcopal Church and Rectory.
In 1902, Blairsville was one of the first places in Pennsylvania to have a woman deliver mail. Her name was Anna J. Devers, and she was a Rural Free Delivery carrier. A person named M. C. Eignus, who later became an Illinois state representative, was also born in Blairsville.

Blairsville is in the southern part of Indiana County. It is bordered by the Conemaugh River and Westmoreland County to the south and west. To the north and east, it borders Burrell Township.
