Footnotes | Coordinates Climate |
Blanche Harbor is a small place, also called a locality, in South Australia. It is located on the eastern coast of the Eyre Peninsula. From here, you can see the beautiful Spencer Gulf.
This area is about 260 kilometers (160 miles) north-west of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. It's also about 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of the center of Port Augusta.
What is Blanche Harbor?
Blanche Harbor got its official boundaries in 1994. Its name comes from a nearby bay that has been known by that name for a long time. This locality also includes a former area called the Douglas Point South Shack Site. A "shack site" is a place where small, simple holiday homes were built.
Homes and Roads
Blanche Harbor has many low-rise homes. These houses are mostly along a road called Shack Road. This road stretches from Port Augusta West in the north, following the coast of Spencer Gulf. It continues south towards other towns in the City of Whyalla.
As of 2012, Blanche Harbor is mainly set aside for homes used as holiday accommodation. This means many people visit here for vacations.
Nearby Military Area
Right next to Blanche Harbor, to its west, is the Cultana Training Area. This is a large area used by the Australian Army for military training exercises.
Government and Location
Blanche Harbor is part of different government areas. It is in the federal division of Grey. A division is an area represented by a member of parliament in the national government.
For state government, it's in the electoral district of Stuart. This is an area that elects a representative to the state parliament. Locally, it belongs to the City of Port Augusta. This is the local council that manages services for the area.
