About the Show
The story of Blazing Teens is all about high schools that love to hold yo-yo contests. Different schools create their own yo-yo teams. These teams then compete against each other to see who is the best!
Each team in the show has its own challenges to overcome. Also, every yo-yo has a special name that matches its design. The show uses cool special effects to make the yo-yo tricks look like magic. These "magic spells" are part of the yo-yo battles. The player whose magic lasts the longest wins!
Many yo-yo tricks you might know appear in the show, like the Forward Pass or Loop-the-Loop. But the show also features unique tricks created just for it, like the White Buddha. Some of these are very difficult, even for professional yo-yo players!
Story Overview
Season 1: The Start of the Yo-Yo Journey
The main characters in the first season are Leon, Mini, Mark, and Michael. Leon is the hero, and Michael is his main rival.
Leon had lost to Michael in a yo-yo contest in California. Michael teased him, saying Leon's Eastern yo-yo skills couldn't beat his Western speed. So, Leon decides to return to China to learn more about Eastern yo-yo techniques.
On his trip, Leon helps stop a robbery. This catches the eye of a school coach who is trying to start a yo-yo team for Jianghai High School. The school doesn't have much money for training or uniforms. The coach works hard to find a way to make the team happen, even putting on a trick show.
The coach asks Leon to join the Jianghai team. At first, Leon doesn't get along with some of the other players. They even tried to trick a boy out of his yo-yo!
But Leon decides to join the team for summer training. He likes to practice alone, which makes some teammates jealous. They try to get him into trouble, and Leon is wrongly accused of something and gets expelled.
Later, a rival team, Chengnan, tries to cheat. They suggest a friendly battle to see Jianghai's special tricks. Mini loses, but Leon arrives just in time to beat the other team!
After training, Michael returns from the US. He forms his own team to challenge Leon again. His teammates, "Cold Cat" and "Hot Dog," battle and defeat many players from both the Jianghai and Chengnan teams.
The big tournament, now called "Youth Fire," begins. Leon trains hard to master a powerful trick called Final Divine Light. This trick needs him to learn many other "Divine Light" tricks first. Because Michael's team knows their old tricks, Leon helps his team learn new ones.
In the tournament, a player named Shawn does surprisingly well. In the final battle, Leon faces Michael. Leon plays well, and Michael loses!
Season 2: New Clubs and Rivals
In Season 2, we meet two main groups: the Blazing Yo-Yo Club and their rivals, the Lightning Yo-Yo Club. Leon is still a key character and a member of the Blazing Yo-Yo Club. Marco becomes the captain of the Lightning Yo-Yo Club.
Timothy is the new bad guy this season. The Blazing Yo-Yo Club has other members like Fiona (their captain), Simon, Peter, Frankie, Danny, Sandy, and Charles. The Lightning Yo-Yo Club includes Lisa, Lawson, Billy, and Rocky. Mini, who was with the Blazing Yo-Yo Club, eventually moves to the Lightning Yo-Yo Club.
Season 3: The True Meaning of Yo-Yoing
Season 3 introduces new main characters: Jacky and Liam. Their teammates are Ken, Jerry, and Lily. Sandy is a girl who creates new yo-yos for the team. They are all part of the Blazing Team, and Jacky is their leader.
Jacky and Liam don't get along at first. Liam is a bit arrogant and even leaves the Blazing Team for a while. After more arguments, Jacky pushes Liam away from the team. But Liam soon learns he must join the Fire Cup yo-yo competition. Ken and Jerry try to help Liam, but a misunderstanding with Liam's father causes more trouble.
Meanwhile, Dylan, a world-class yo-yo champion, comes to China. He wants to form a team with the strongest players to prove that only Western yo-yo skills are truly good. He thinks Chinese skills aren't as advanced. His team becomes the Falcon Team.
Liam, Lily, and their friends Sean, Onion, and Charles try to help Jacky and Ray (the leader of the Super Tornado team) fix a misunderstanding from a past competition. They want to stop Dylan from achieving his goal.
Lily's cousin, Takashi, who is on the Falcon Team, doesn't like her. The Blazing Team's main goal is to beat the Falcon Team. They want to show that Chinese yo-yo techniques are just as good as Western ones.
Throughout this season, the show often talks about "the true meaning of yo-yoing." It teaches that yo-yoing should be about enjoying yourself and having fun! After the National Competitions, the story leads into Blazing Teens 3.5, which introduces masked yo-yo players. These players are from Dylan's original team.
This season was also made into a live-action movie!
Season 3.5 / Season 4: Searching for New Talent
In China, what we call "Season 3.5" wasn't officially a full season. But on the English Auldey website, it's known as "Season 4."
Liam starts by briefly explaining what happened in Season 3. The team is still looking for special players (3A and 5A style players) for their team. Liam and Kelvin go to Shanghai to find a legendary 3A player who is supposedly a bit scary. With some encouragement from Sandy, Liam and Kelvin go. Jacky heads to Beijing to find a 5A player and visit Mrs. Weng, an older lady who might have taught Jacky 4A tricks. It's hinted that Leo, a 4A player from Dylan's Tornado team, is Mrs. Weng's grandson.
In Shanghai, Liam and Kelvin go to an arcade. Liam gets the highest score in a game. A very short teenager challenges Liam, but Liam rudely calls him a "child." He doesn't know that this "child" is the legendary 3A player he's looking for!
Liam and Kelvin stay at Charles' grandmother's house. Charles tells them about the legendary player, whose yo-yo damaged his own. Liam wants revenge.
When they finally find the legendary player, Liam realizes it's the short guy from the arcade, David. Liam challenges him, saying "the winner gets their wish granted." David wins and makes Liam his "slave."
David is actually a lonely person. Many people think he uses his yo-yo to cause trouble. Liam soon realizes this, and they become friends.
Meanwhile, in Beijing, Jacky spends time with Mrs. Weng. Her grandson is one of two people trying to stop them from finding new team members. He's the 4A player.
In an unfinished part of Season 3, Dylan asked his team to stop fighting Chinese yo-yoers unfairly. Three players, the 3A, 4A, and 5A players, don't listen. The 5A player is a girl.
Mrs. Weng and her grandson haven't been friendly for a long time. Mrs. Weng really wants her grandson to forgive her. Knowing this, the 4A player tries to make Mrs. Weng hurt Jacky with acupuncture. But Jacky helps change their minds.
Jacky then goes to another city to find a 5A player. Dylan's 5A player sneaks into their team and causes problems. Sandy is almost driven away, but Jacky refuses to believe the 5A player would do such a thing. She almost damaged the team's yo-yos.
Season 4: Hip-Hop Yoyo
This season is also known as "Hip-Hop Yoyo" and has 42 episodes. Many new characters are introduced, and players show off skills from 1A to 5A.
Some characters from Season 3 who appear in this season include:
- Jacky
- Hippo
- Sean
- Andy
- Ray
- Charles
