Spacetoon (Arabic: سبيستون or سبيس تون) is a TV channel that shows animated series and kids' programs. It started broadcasting on March 15, 2000. The main office is in Dubai, UAE, with another office in Riyadh.
Spacetoon is made for children aged 4 and up. It also has a late-night block called Space Power for teenagers and young adults. The company also has an app called Spacetoon Go where you can watch videos whenever you want.
Spacetoon used to have two other channels in the Arab world, called Space Power TV and Spacetoon English, but these channels are no longer on air.
The main Spacetoon channel in Indonesia started on March 24, 2005, in Jakarta. This channel later became NET.. Spacetoon still broadcasts in Indonesia through satellite TV. Today, there are three Spacetoon channels in Indonesia: Spacetoon, Space Shopping, and Spacetoon Plus. In India, Spacetoon India is a company that handles licenses, but it's not a TV channel. Spacetoon also launched in South Korea in 2005 but has since closed down there.
Spacetoon is currently available in 22 countries and reaches over 130 million viewers.

Spacetoon's Story
How Spacetoon Started in the Arab World
In 1999, a company called Bahrain Radio and Television Corporation agreed to start a cartoon channel for kids. Spacetoon officially began on March 15, 2000. At first, it only broadcast for seven hours a day.
Spacetoon continued to air this way until January 12, 2002. Later, in 2004, Spacetoon moved its main office to Dubai. It then became its own independent channel on the Nilesat satellite, broadcasting 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Most of the shows in the Arab world are dubbed into Modern Standard Arabic. Spacetoon works closely with Venus Centre, a company from Syria that provides the Arabic voices for the shows. The voice actors from Venus Center often announced the shows from 2001 to 2015. Using Modern Standard Arabic for dubbing helped keep this language alive for children as different spoken Arabic dialects became more common.

In Indonesia, Spacetoon officially started on March 24, 2005. The channel was created by H. Sukoyo, who also helped start TV7. When it first launched, Spacetoon broadcast from 6 AM to 9:30 PM WIB (Western Indonesian Time). Later, the broadcast hours were extended from 5 AM to 11 PM.
When the shows ended, there was a 10-minute section with animation, songs, or messages for children. Around mid-2011, Spacetoon started showing some home-shopping programs and alternative medicine shows. This was because the channel was having money problems.
In March 2013, a company called Net Visi Media bought most of Spacetoon. On May 18, 2013, Spacetoon stopped broadcasting on regular TV (terrestrial). This was to make way for the new channel NET.. However, Spacetoon continued to broadcast in Indonesia through satellite television.

In September 2014, Spacetoon split into two channels: Spacetoon and Spacetoon 2. Spacetoon 2 showed more cartoons and animation than the main Spacetoon channel, but it still had some home-shopping programs. In May 2016, Spacetoon added another channel, Spacetoon 3. This channel had clearer sound, but it closed down in October of the same year.
In November 2016, Spacetoon 2 was renamed Space Shopping. This happened because the home shopping shows brought in most of the money for the channel, which didn't have much income overall. On August 25, 2017, the channel closed down on the Telkom-1 satellite.
Currently, Spacetoon has only two children's satellite TV channels operating: Spacetoon and Spacetoon Plus.
What Spacetoon Shows
Spacetoon divides its programs into different blocks, which they call "planets." Each planet is for a different type of show:
- Action Planet (أکشن) (planet of excitement and mystery): For action series like Dragon Ball and Iron Kid.
- Sport Planet (رياضة) (planet of challenge and strength): For sports series and programs, such as Inazuma Eleven.
- Adventures Planet (مغامرات) (planet of imagination and thrill): For adventure series like Future Boy Conan.
- Comedy Planet (كوميديا) (planet of laughter): For comedy series, such as Woody Woodpecker, Tom & Jerry Kids, and The Pink Panther.
- Movies Planet (أفلام) (planet of all colors): For animated movies.
- Abjad Planet (أبجد) (planet of numbers and letters): For educational programs, such as Pappyland.
- Bon Bon Planet (بون بون) (planet of big heroes): For preschool programs, such as Thomas & Friends.
- History Planet (تاريخ) (planet of time immemorial): This planet was active from 2000 to 2013 for historical series, like Liberty's Kids.
- Science Planet (علوم) (planet of discovery and knowledge): For educational science programs, such as Inspector Gadget's Field Trip.
- Zomoroda Planet (زمردة) (means "emerald" in Arabic, planet just for girls): For series and programs made for girls, such as Magical Princess Minky Momo.
How Spacetoon Edits Shows
Spacetoon sometimes changes parts of the shows it airs from their original versions. For example, scenes might be cut or shortened to avoid showing too much violence to viewers. This has happened in shows like Detective Conan, Romeo's Blue Skies, and Hunter × Hunter.
In Hunter × Hunter, parts related to certain spiritual beliefs were changed. The edited version presented the characters' special powers as a science and martial art instead. Spacetoon also uses editing to hide revealing clothing or remove inappropriate jokes.
