History
The name "Boadilla" might come from an old Arabic word. This would show that the area was once ruled by Saracens. Another idea is that the name comes from "boa." This word meant a "rush-like plant" in the 13th century.
In the 15th century, the Catholic Monarchs ruled Spain. They gave the title of Count and Countess of Chinchón to Don Andrés Cabrera and his wife, Doña Beatriz de Boadilla. Boadilla was part of their land. Later, other important people owned the "Señorío de Boadilla del Monte." These included the Count of Toreno and the Marquess of Mirabal.
Doña Josefa de Mirabal was the 3rd Marchioness of Mirabal. She sold her land to Infante Don Luis. He was a prince of Spain. Don Luis asked a famous architect, Ventura Rodríguez, to redesign a palace. This palace was known as the old Palace of the Two Towers.
In the mid-1800s, Boadilla grew bigger. It added the small village of Romanillos to its area. Romanillos only had about 30 people.
Boadilla del Monte was also a place of an important battle. This happened in December 1936. It was during the Spanish Civil War. Soldiers from the International Brigades fought here. They were defending Madrid from Franco's army. Winston Churchill's nephew, Esmond Romilly, was among these soldiers. The battle lasted for three days. Many of Romilly's British friends were lost during this time.

Urbanism
Boadilla del Monte has grown a lot over the years. Besides the old historical town, new areas were built.
In the 1960s and 1970s, new neighborhoods started to appear. These were built with single-family houses. Each house had a large plot of land. Part of Boadilla's forest was used for these new homes. This is how the Montepríncipe and Monte de las Encinas neighborhoods were created.
At the same time, other neighborhoods grew in the western part of the town. These included Las Lomas, Olivar de Mirabal, Parque Boadilla, and Bonanza. More recently, new areas like Pino Centinela, Valdecabañas, and Valdepastores have also been built.
These new homes were first meant for very wealthy families. But the land was not too expensive. So, many different people from Madrid bought homes here. They used them as second homes for vacations.
As Madrid's metropolitan area grew, these neighborhoods changed. They became luxury and exclusive places to live. They are similar to other fancy neighborhoods nearby. These include areas in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Majadahonda, Las Rozas, or Villaviciosa de Odón. All these are known as "Historic Residential Complexes."
In the 1980s, Boadilla's old town also expanded. This led to the creation of "Residencial de las Eras." This area has more homes packed together than the older luxury complexes. The homes are mainly terraced houses. They are built around the Zoco de Boadilla mall.
