Boca Dam is a large earthfill dam in California. It's part of the Truckee Storage Project, which helps manage water in parts of Nevada County, California and Washoe County, Nevada. The dam is open all year round.
You can find Boca Dam at the southern end of Boca Reservoir. It's about 1 mi (2 km) north of Interstate 80. The dam sits above where the Little Truckee River and the Truckee River meet. It's also about 6 mi (9.7 km) northeast of Truckee, California. The city of Reno, Nevada is 27 mi (43 km) to the east.
Boca Dam is important for a few key reasons. It helps with farming by providing water for crops. It also plays a role in protecting nature and wildlife. Plus, it's a great example of engineering. The dam is managed by the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Reclamation. The Washoe County Water Conservation District helps operate it. The dam was built between 1937 and 1939.
