Booth is a small community in Fort Bend County, Texas, in the United States. It is called an unincorporated community because it doesn't have its own local government. In 1990, about 60 people lived there. Booth is part of the larger Greater Houston area.

History of Booth

How Booth Started

The land where Booth is located was first given to Henry Jones in the 1800s. This was part of Stephen F. Austin's original Texas colony.

The community of Booth was founded in the 1890s by a wealthy landowner named Freeman Irby Booth. He owned several businesses, including a cotton gin, a general store, a lumberyard, and a syrup mill.

Early Growth and Changes

Booth got its own post office in 1894. Just two years later, it had a Baptist church and about 150 residents. By 1914, the community had grown to about 300 people. It even had a bank and telephone service.

From the mid-1920s to 1948, around 100 people lived in Booth. In the 1940s, there were two churches, a cemetery, and several homes. However, by the end of that decade, the population dropped to about 40. In the 1980s, Booth had two businesses and some homes. By 1990, the population was around 60 residents.

What Booth Produced

In the 1890s, Irby Booth invited about 30 families from South Carolina to move to the area. Booth became an important shipping point for goods. Farmers sent cotton, corn, and rice from Booth along the Brazos River.

In the early 1900s, Booth also had a mill that made syrup and another that cut lumber. It was also a shipping point for sugarcane, alfalfa, and vegetables. These goods were sent out using the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway.

Where is Booth Located?

Booth is found along Farm to Market Road 2759 and the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. It is about 8 miles (13 km) southeast of Richmond, in the eastern part of Fort Bend County.
