Brandon William Sermons, born on June 1, 1991, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back, which is a position in football. Brandon went to college at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He also attended Diamond Ranch High School in Pomona, California. During his career, he played for several teams. These teams included the Arizona Cardinals, the San Jose Sabercats, and the Ottawa Redblacks.
Early Life in Football
Brandon Sermons played high school football at Diamond Ranch High School. He helped his team reach the Southeast Division title game. In his senior year, he made 51 tackles in 12 games. Tackles are when a player stops an opponent with the ball. Experts rated Sermons as a top player in California. He was also considered one of the best cornerbacks in the country. Besides football, Brandon also participated in track and field at Diamond Ranch.
College Football Career
Brandon Sermons played for the UCLA Bruins from 2009 to 2013. He missed the 2010 season because of a leg injury. This injury happened during spring practice. In 2009, his first year, he played in the last nine games. He then played in twelve games in 2011 and nine games in 2012.
During his senior year in 2013, he played in twelve games and started four of them. He made a total of 38 tackles that year. He had his best game against the Washington Huskies, making seven tackles. He also made six tackles against Virginia Tech in the Sun Bowl. Overall, Brandon played in 42 college games. He recorded 46 tackles during his time at UCLA. He studied anthropology while in college.
Professional Football Journey
After college, Brandon Sermons signed with the Arizona Cardinals in the National Football League (NFL). This happened on May 12, 2014. He was not chosen in the 2014 NFL draft, but the Cardinals still wanted him. However, the Cardinals released him on August 25, 2014. This means they let him go from the team.
Later, on October 29, 2014, Sermons joined the San Jose Sabercats. This team played in the Arena Football League. He was with the team for a few months. On March 23, 2015, he was placed on "recallable reassignment."
Brandon Sermons then signed with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League (CFL). This happened on May 28, 2015. He played in seven games for the Redblacks during the 2015 regular season. He made six defensive tackles and five special teams tackles. He also had one sack, which is when a player tackles the opposing quarterback. Brandon also played in the 103rd Grey Cup, which is a big championship game in the CFL. In 2016, he played in two more games for the Redblacks. He made three defensive tackles and two special teams tackles. The Redblacks released him from the team on July 15, 2016.
