Brent Butt, born on August 3, 1966, is a Canadian actor, comedian, and writer. He's famous for playing Brent Leroy in the TV show Corner Gas, which he also created. He also created another TV series called Hiccups and wrote the movie No Clue. In 2023, he wrote his first novel, Huge, a thrilling story about comedians on tour.

Discovering Brent Butt's Early Life
Growing Up in Saskatchewan
Brent Butt was born on August 3, 1966, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. He went to Tisdale Unit Composite School. After high school, Brent briefly attended Ontario's Sheridan College. However, he soon returned home to Saskatchewan.
Brent Butt's Journey in Comedy
Starting with Comics
Before becoming a famous comedian, Brent worked as a drywaller. With a friend, he started a publishing company called Windwolf Graphics. Brent even created his own comic book called Existing Earth. It was nominated for an Eagle Award, a big prize in the comic world! They published two issues before running out of money.
First Steps in Stand-Up Comedy
In February 1988, Brent tried stand-up comedy for the first time. It was at an amateur night at a Saskatoon comedy club. He then started performing at Yuk Yuk's comedy clubs across Western Canada. In 1989, he moved to Toronto. There, he lived with two other comedians and continued performing at Yuk Yuk's.
Performing for Audiences Everywhere
Brent Butt has performed his stand-up comedy for many TV channels. These include CTV, CBC Television, and The Comedy Network in Canada. He also performed for A&E in the United States and SBS in Australia. He even wrote funny songs, like "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and "Hairy Legs."
Creating Corner Gas
In 2003, Brent co-created the TV show Corner Gas through his company, Prairie Pants. The show was set in his home province of Saskatchewan. Brent starred in the show as Brent Leroy from 2004 to 2009. It became a huge hit in Canada!
Special Performances and Awards
On May 19, 2005, Brent hosted a special show for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. This event was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to celebrate the province's 100th birthday. He performed his song "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and joked with actor Leslie Nielsen. That same year, he also hosted the Juno Awards, Canada's biggest music awards.
In 2008, Brent and his team decided to end Corner Gas after its sixth season. It aired during 2008–2009. At the World Television Festival in Banff, Brent received the Comedy Network Sir Peter Ustinov Award. This award celebrates a comedian's important work. Famous comedians like John Cleese and John Candy have also won it.
Other TV Shows and Movies
Brent also wrote and produced another comedy series for CTV called Hiccups. It aired from 2010 to 2011. The show starred Nancy Robertson as Millie Upton, a children's author. Millie sees a life coach to help with her anger.
On July 25, 2010, Brent had his own one-hour comedy special. It was called The Brent Butt Comedy Special and was shown on The Comedy Network. Special guests included Seth Rogen and Dave Foley.
In 2014, Brent co-wrote and co-produced Corner Gas: The Movie. He also played Brent Leroy again. The movie was released in theaters and on CTV in December of that year. It featured appearances by many Canadian TV stars and even Academy Award nominee Graham Greene.
In April 2018, Brent's new animated series, Corner Gas Animated, started on The Comedy Network. It continued the story of Corner Gas in cartoon form.
In 2023, his first novel, Huge, was released. It's a psychological thriller about stand-up comedians on tour.

Brent Butt is married to Nancy Robertson. She was his co-star in both Corner Gas and Hiccups. They have been married since 2005.
Awards and Recognition for Brent Butt
Brent Butt has won four Canadian Comedy Awards. He won for Best Male Stand-up in 2001. He also won for Best Male TV Performance for Corner Gas in 2004–05. In 2004, he won for Best Writing – TV Series for Corner Gas. In 2008, he received the Comedy Network Sir Peter Ustinov Award at the Banff World Television Festival.
