Brent Butt, born on August 3, 1966, is a funny Canadian actor, comedian, and writer. He is most famous for playing Brent Leroy in the TV show Corner Gas, which he also created. He also made another TV series called Hiccups. In 2013, he wrote the movie No Clue. In 2023, he released his first novel, Huge, a thrilling story about comedians on tour.

Early Life and School
Brent Butt was born in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Canada. His parents were Irene and Herbert Butt. He went to Tisdale Unit Composite School. After high school, he briefly studied at Sheridan College in Ontario. But he soon returned home to Saskatchewan.
Brent Butt's Career
Before becoming a famous comedian, Brent Butt worked as a drywaller. He even started a publishing company with a friend called Windwolf Graphics. They published two issues of his comic, Existing Earth, which was nominated for an Eagle Award.
Starting Stand-Up Comedy
In February 1988, Brent tried stand-up comedy for the first time. It was at an amateur night in a Saskatoon comedy club. He then started performing in the Yuk Yuk's comedy clubs across Western Canada. In 1989, he moved to Toronto and continued performing at Yuk Yuk's there.
TV and Radio Appearances
Brent Butt performed his stand-up comedy on many TV channels. These included CTV, CBC Television, and The Comedy Network in Canada. He also appeared on A&E in the United States and the Special Broadcasting Service in Australia. He even wrote funny songs about the Canadian prairies, like "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan."
Creating Corner Gas
In 2003, Brent Butt created the TV show Corner Gas with his company, Prairie Pants. The show was set in his home province of Saskatchewan. He starred in the show as Brent Leroy from 2004 to 2009. The show became very popular.
Special Performances and Awards
On May 19, 2005, Brent hosted a special show for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. This event was in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to celebrate Saskatchewan's 100th birthday. He performed his song "Nothing Rhymes with Saskatchewan" and joked with actor Leslie Nielsen. That same year, he also hosted the Juno Awards, which celebrate Canadian music.
In 2008, Brent and his team decided to end Corner Gas after its sixth season. The final season aired in 2008–2009.
At the Banff World Media Festival in Banff, Brent received the Comedy Network Sir Peter Ustinov Award. This award honors comedians who have created a lot of great comedy. Famous comedians like John Cleese and John Candy have also received this award.
Other TV Shows and Movies
From 2010 to 2011, Brent also wrote and produced another comedy series for CTV called Hiccups. The show starred Nancy Robertson as Millie Upton, a children's author dealing with anger issues. Brent also appeared in the show as Stan Dirko.
On July 25, 2010, Brent had his own one-hour comedy special called The Brent Butt Comedy Special. It was shown on The Comedy Network and featured guest stars like Seth Rogen.
In 2014, Brent co-wrote and helped produce Corner Gas: The Movie. He also played Brent Leroy again in the movie. It was shown in theaters and on CTV in December of that year.
In April 2018, Brent's animated follow-up series, Corner Gas Animated, started airing on The Comedy Network. He was the creator, co-writer, and co-executive producer for this show.
In 2023, Brent's first novel, Huge, was published. It is a psychological thriller about stand-up comedians on tour.
Personal Life
Brent Butt is married to Nancy Robertson. She was his co-star in both Corner Gas and Hiccups. They have been married since 2005.
Awards and Nominations
Brent Butt has won several Canadian Comedy Awards. He won for Best Male Stand-up in 2001. He also won for Best Male TV Performance for Corner Gas in 2004 and 2005. In 2004, he won for Best Writing – TV Series for Corner Gas. In 2008, he received the Comedy Network Sir Peter Ustinov Award at the Banff World Media Festival.
