Becoming a Golfer: Brian's Amateur Career

He won several important college tournaments. These included the 2005 NCAA Preview and the 2006 Isleworth Invitational. Brian also earned an award three times for having the highest grades on his team.

As a young golfer, Brian won the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2003. This is a big tournament for young players. He also won the Players Amateur in 2005. In 2007, he won the Porter Cup. He set a new record there by shooting 22 strokes under par.

Brian was chosen to play on special teams for the United States. He played on the winning Walker Cup teams in 2005 and 2009. He was also on the winning 2007 Palmer Cup team. When he first played in the Walker Cup in 2005, he was the youngest player ever on the team.

Brian Harman became a professional golfer in 2009. In 2010, he played mostly on the eGolf Professional Tour. He did very well, finishing in the top 10 in 11 out of 14 tournaments. He earned his first professional win at the Manor Classic. He won that tournament by three shots.

In 2012, Brian had a unique situation at The Players Championship. He was a backup player, meaning he would only play if someone else dropped out. Just minutes before his tee time, another golfer withdrew. Brian was allowed to start the first round by himself! He later joined other players and even made the cut, finishing tied for 51st place.

Brian played in his first major tournament, the U.S. Open, in 2012. His first big win on the PGA Tour came in 2014. He won the John Deere Classic. In 2015, he almost won the Travelers Championship. He was leading after three rounds but finished just one shot out of the playoff.

On August 30, 2015, Brian did something amazing. He made two holes-in-one in the same round at The Barclays tournament. This is very rare and has only happened a few times in PGA Tour history! A hole-in-one, also called an "ace," is when a golfer hits the ball directly into the hole from the tee.

On May 7, 2017, Brian won his second PGA Tour event. This was the Wells Fargo Championship. He won by making a long 28-foot putt on the final hole. He beat two other top golfers by just one stroke.

Later in 2017, Brian led the U.S. Open after three rounds. This was the first time he was in the final group of a major tournament on the last day. He finished tied for second place, four shots behind the winner.

In 2022, Brian had two strong finishes. He came in second at the World Wide Technology Championship. He also tied for second at the RSM Classic. These were his best results in over five years.

Winning a Major Championship

In July 2023, Brian Harman achieved his biggest dream. He won The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool. This is one of golf's four major championships. He won by a huge six-stroke lead! This made him only the third left-handed golfer to win The Open.

Brian took control of the tournament in the second round. He shot a score of 65, which was much better than most other players that day. He kept a five-shot lead going into the final round. His win was a bit of a surprise to many, as he had 125-to-1 odds to win.

Playing for Team USA

In September 2023, Brian was chosen to play for the U.S. team in the 2023 Ryder Cup. This is a special team competition between the United States and Europe. The European team won that year. Brian also played on the winning U.S. team in the Presidents Cup in 2024.
