Early Beginnings and German Settlers
The township was first settled by German Lutherans in 1848. These early settlers helped build the community from the ground up.
Post Office and County Changes
A post office was opened in Frankenlust on September 23, 1852. At first, the settlement was part of Kochville Township in Saginaw County. In 1870, a map was created for West Saginaw. Then, in 1880, the county lines changed, and Frankenlust Township officially became part of Bay County. The post office closed and reopened a few times over the years, with the Amelith Post Office opening later in 1894 before closing in 1901.
