A post office was opened in Frankenlust on September 23, 1852. At first, the settlement was part of Kochville Township in Saginaw County. In 1870, a map was created for West Saginaw. Then, in 1880, the county lines changed, and Frankenlust Township officially became part of Bay County. The post office closed and reopened a few times over the years, with the Amelith Post Office opening later in 1894 before closing in 1901.
