Bryce Perkins grew up in Chandler, Arizona, and went to Chandler High School. During his senior year, he led his high school team to a big win. They won their first state championship since 1949!
While playing in high school, Bryce threw for over 5,300 yards. He also scored 70 touchdowns by throwing the ball. Plus, he ran for 26 touchdowns himself. After high school, Bryce decided to play college football at Arizona State University.
College Football Journey
Starting at Arizona State
Bryce Perkins began his college career at Arizona State in 2015. He "redshirted" his first year, which means he practiced with the team but didn't play in games. This allowed him to gain experience without using up a year of his playing eligibility. Sadly, he missed the 2016 season because of a broken neck.
Moving to Arizona Western College
In 2017, Bryce transferred to Arizona Western College. He played one season there. He threw for 1,311 yards and seven touchdowns. He also showed off his running skills, gaining 353 yards and scoring four touchdowns on the ground.
Success at Virginia
Bryce then transferred to the University of Virginia in 2018. He quickly became the team's starting quarterback. In his first season, he played in all 13 games. He set a new school record for total offense in a single season. He gained 3,603 yards and scored 34 touchdowns!
He completed 225 passes for 2,680 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also ran for 923 yards and nine touchdowns. Bryce returned as the starting quarterback for the 2019 season. He played in all 14 games that year. He completed 319 passes for 3,540 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also ran for 769 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Professional Football Career
Playing for the Los Angeles Rams
On April 25, 2020, Bryce Perkins signed with the Los Angeles Rams. He joined them as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't chosen in the main NFL draft, but the Rams still wanted him on their team.
He was first placed on the team's "practice squad." This is a group of players who practice with the main team but don't usually play in games. They are ready to step in if someone gets hurt. Bryce was called up to the main team for a couple of games in 2021.
In 2021, Bryce was part of the Rams team that won Super Bowl LVI. Even though he didn't play in the game, he received a Super Bowl ring! He made his official NFL debut in the 2022 season. He played in a few games when other quarterbacks were injured. On November 27, 2022, he threw his first professional touchdown pass.
Joining the Michigan Panthers
On April 24, 2024, Bryce signed with the Michigan Panthers. This team plays in the United Football League (UFL). He was later placed on injured reserve on June 4, but he re-signed with the team on August 26, 2024.
Personal Life
Bryce comes from a family of football players. His father, Bruce Perkins, played fullback at Arizona State. He also played briefly in the NFL.
