The Story of Bryn Mawr
Early Days and New Names
Bryn Mawr was first known as Nahant in the 1880s. Later, a train station was built there for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Because of the station, the community was renamed Redlands Junction. This was to show it was a connection point for the nearby city of Redlands.
To avoid confusion with Redlands, the name was changed again to Bryn Mawr. In 1895, a post office was added to the train station.
Growing with Citrus
In the early 1900s, Bryn Mawr became a busy place. This was thanks to the local citrus industry. Farmers grew lots of oranges and other citrus fruits. Four large buildings called packing houses were built in the area. These were used to prepare the fruit for shipping. Before these packing houses, the train station itself was used to pack the citrus.
The town had many useful places for its residents. There was a general store where people could buy almost anything. It also had a blacksmith's shop, a pool room, and a service station. There was a market, a restaurant, and cabins for workers.
Becoming Part of Loma Linda
Over time, the citrus industry became less important. Because of this, Bryn Mawr slowly started to blend into the nearby cities. The old train station was taken down. However, a post office built in 1971 is still there today.
In 1970, parts of Bryn Mawr became officially part of the city of Loma Linda. In 2008, the rest of the area was also added to Loma Linda. This decision caused some discussion among local residents. Today, Bryn Mawr is mostly a neighborhood with homes.

There are two parks in the neighborhood for everyone to enjoy. One is Leonard Bailey Park. It is named after a famous heart surgeon who worked at the nearby Loma Linda University Medical Center.
