Bubión is a charming village located in the Las Alpujarras region of Granada in Spain. It sits high up, about 1,350 meters (4,429 feet) above sea level. Its postal code is 18412.
Bubión is one of three famous "white villages" in the Poqueira valley, along with Capileira and Pampaneira. These villages are very popular with tourists because of their amazing location. They are found in a deep gorge, right below the tall peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains.
These three villages have a special look, with narrow, winding streets and flat roofs. This style comes from the Moors, who lived in Spain for many centuries. Because of their unique history and beauty, the villages are protected as a Conjunto Histórico Artístico. This means they are very important for art and history.

A Glimpse into Bubión's Past
Bubión is a very old village. People think it might have been started during Roman times. It was definitely around before the Moorish people arrived in Spain in the 7th century.
Bubión Under Moorish Rule
When the Moors ruled, Bubión was part of a larger area controlled by the town of Ugíjar. After the "Catholic Monarchs" took over Granada in the 16th century, things changed. The Moors who stayed in Spain were called "Moriscos." They were supposed to become Christians.
The Morisco Rebellions
In the 16th century, the Moriscos rebelled against the Catholic rulers. Bubión was one of the first villages in the Alpujarra region to be taken back by the Catholic forces. This happened after a big battle in the Poqueira valley. After their defeat in 1571, most Moriscos had to leave the province of Granada. Christian settlers from other parts of Spain then moved into the area.
Bubión During the Spanish Civil War
During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939), Bubión and the other two villages in the Poqueira valley stayed under the control of the Nationalist side. However, the Republican forces held the higher ground around them.
The Village Church
The most important building in Bubión is its village church. It was built in the 16th century and later updated in the 17th century. The church has a simple design in the mudéjar style. This style mixes Christian and Moorish building ideas.
Life and Visitors in Bubión
In 2001, Bubión had a population of 610 people. Many people who lived there, or had homes there, were from other countries, especially from the European Union. The village also had 170 beds available for tourists.
Exploring Bubión and Beyond
Bubión is a great place for people who love to walk and explore. The GR 7/E4 long-distance footpath goes right through the village.
Walking Trails and Mountain Adventures
There are many walking trails that connect the three white villages of Bubión, Capileira, and Pampaneira. These paths also go through the Poqueira Gorge and up into the Sierra Nevada mountains. You can even use these trails to get close to Mulhacén, which is the highest mountain peak in mainland Spain!
Getting to Bubión
Bubión can be reached by bus from the city of Granada. The bus route goes through Órgiva and then continues up the Poqueira valley to Capileira. It even goes further to other villages like Trevelez. There are several buses each day.
