Pampaneira is a charming village located in the beautiful province of Granada, in southern Spain. It's known for its traditional white houses and stunning mountain views. According to a count of people living there in 2005, called a census, about 355 people lived in Pampaneira.

It is one of three special mountain villages found in a place called the Barranco de Poqueira. This area is part of the larger Alpujarras region. The other two villages, Bubión and Capileira, are located higher up in the Poqueira gorge.

Discovering Pampaneira and Its Surroundings

Pampaneira sits at about 1060 metres (about 3,478 feet) above sea level. This high location gives it amazing views of the surrounding mountains.

The Poqueira Gorge

The Poqueira gorge is a deep valley that starts below the mountain peak of Mulhacén. This is where the Poqueira river begins its journey.

Nearby Towns and Villages

The closest major town to Pampaneira is Órgiva. Another interesting village nearby is Trevélez. It is one of the highest villages in Spain where people live all year round. Trevélez is located in the mountains to the east of Pampaneira and its two sister villages.

The Sierra Nevada Mountains

To the north of Pampaneira, you can see the impressive Sierra Nevada (Spain) mountain range. This range includes some of the highest peaks in Spain, like Mulhacén and Alcazaba (Sierra Nevada).

Winter Weather

During the winter months, the Sierra Nevada and the Alpujarra mountains often get covered in snow. However, the villages themselves are usually not affected by snow for more than a few days at a time. This means you can often visit even in winter.

It's easy to reach Pampaneira by bus. There are bus connections running every day from the city of Granada, Spain.
