A Look at Buckner's History
Buckner was officially started in 1875. It began as a town with a train station for the Missouri Pacific Railroad.
There are different ideas about how Buckner got its name. Some say it was named after a former U.S. Senator named Alexander Buckner. Others believe it was named after a real estate agent, Simon Buckner. Another idea is that Thomas W. Buckner, one of the first owners of the land, was the namesake.

Buckner is part of the Fort Osage School District. The only school actually inside the city limits is Buckner Elementary. After elementary school, students go to Fire Prairie Middle School. They then move on to Fort Osage High School for their high school education.
Buckner also has a public library. It is a branch of the Mid-Continent Public Library system.
