A Look at Buffalo's Past
The town of Buffalo was once home to the Winona Junction rail station. This was a passenger station for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad.
The station was first located where the Chicago and North Western Railroad crossed before it reached the Winona Rail Bridge. This was also where the old road for the wagon bridge used to be. Later, when the new Main Channel Bridge was built and the old wagon bridge was removed, the Winona Junction station was moved. It was relocated northwest, away from the original crossing, closer to the new road. Today, a walking and biking path called the Flyway trail, which opened in 2020, has a bridge that goes right over where the two railroads originally met at East Winona junction.
