History of Buffalo City
Buffalo City got its name a long time ago. It might have come from a place where people raised buffalo animals. The city officially became a city in 1859. At that time, it was the only city in Buffalo County.
Some people think the town was named after three brothers. They reportedly raised buffalo on a high area overlooking the city.

Buffalo City is found at 44°13′59″N 91°51′44″W / 44.23306°N 91.86222°W.
The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 6.04 square miles (15.64 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 3.93 square miles (10.18 square kilometers), is water. The rest, about 2.11 square miles (5.46 square kilometers), is land.
The city is located west of Cochrane, Wisconsin. It sits right on the shore of Spring Lake. This lake is a calm backwater area of the big Mississippi River.

Interesting Places to See
Buffalo City has some unique landmarks. One is the original Buffalo County Jail. It was built in 1862 and is now part of the city's park. You can find it between 10th and 12th streets.
Another interesting sight is a large Viking statue. This statue is located at the corner of River Road and W 17th Street.
