Buna (pronounced BEW-nuh) is a small community located in Jasper County, Texas, in the United States. It's known as a census-designated place, which means it's an area identified by the government for statistics, even though it doesn't have its own city government. In 2020, about 2,137 people lived in Buna.

History of Buna
The area where Buna is now was first home to a lumber mill. This mill was owned by the Beaumont Lumber Company. It was first called "Carrolla," named after the Carroll family. They were important people in the lumber business in Beaumont.
Later, the place was renamed "Buna." This new name was chosen to honor one of the Carroll family's cousins, Buna Corley.
Where is Buna Located?
Buna is found in the southern part of Jasper County. You can find its exact spot using coordinates: 30°26′22″N 93°57′58″W / 30.43944°N 93.96611°W.
U.S. Route 96 runs along the west side of the community. This road can take you north about 16 miles (26 km) to Kirbyville. It also goes about 35 miles (56 km) to Jasper, which is the main town of the county.
If you head southwest on US-96 from Buna, you'll reach Evadale in about 9 miles (14 km). Further down, about 35 miles (56 km) away, is Beaumont. Texas State Highway 62 goes southeast from Buna for about 17 miles (27 km) to Mauriceville.
Land and Water Around Buna
The United States Census Bureau says that Buna covers a total area of about 6.0 square miles (15.6 km²). Most of this is land, with only a tiny bit, about 0.004 square miles (0.01 km²), being water.
Buna is located on a low area that divides two different water systems. The western side of the town drains into the Neches River. The eastern side of the town drains into the Sabine River.

Buna was first listed as a community in the 1970 U.S. Census. At that time, it included another nearby place called Bessmay. In the 1980 U.S. Census, it was called the Bessmay-Buna census designated place. By the 1990 U.S. Census, it was simply renamed the Buna CDP.
According to the 2020 United States census, there were 2,137 people living in Buna. There were 802 households and 557 families.
