The Burrangong Creek is a special stream in New South Wales, Australia. It's mostly a perennial stream, which means it usually has water flowing in it all year round. This creek is part of a much bigger water system called the Murray–Darling basin, which is super important for Australia.
You can find Burrangong Creek in the South West Slopes region, flowing between the towns of Young and Grenfell. It starts high up in the Great Dividing Range and eventually joins other creeks and rivers.
Where Does Burrangong Creek Flow?
Burrangong Creek is connected to a huge network of waterways across Australia. It's a small part of the Lachlan sub-catchment, which then connects to the Murrumbidgee River system. All these rivers eventually feed into the massive Murray–Darling basin.
Connecting to the Big Rivers
Normally, Burrangong Creek flows into Bland Creek. However, it only connects to the larger Murray–Darling basin when there's a lot of rain and the rivers are in flood. This means that during very wet times, the water from Burrangong Creek can travel all the way through Bland Creek to the Lachlan and Murrumbidgee Rivers.
Bland Creek is a tributary of Burrangong Creek. A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. Bland Creek drops about 101 metres (331 ft) (that's like falling from the top of a 30-story building!) over its 22-kilometre (14 mi) (about 14 miles) journey.
