Burundi is a country in East Africa that loves sports! Like many countries around the world, Burundi sends its best athletes to compete in the Olympic Games. The Olympics are a huge international sports event where athletes from different countries come together to show their skills and compete for medals.

Burundi first joined the Olympic family in 1996. Since then, the country has sent athletes to every Summer Olympic Games. However, Burundi has never taken part in the Winter Olympic Games, which feature sports like skiing and ice skating.

Burundi has won two Olympic medals so far! The first was a gold medal won by Vénuste Niyongabo in athletics. He won it on August 3rd, 1996, at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Twenty years later, Francine Niyonsaba added a silver medal. She earned it in athletics on August 20th, 2016, at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.

The organization that helps Burundi's athletes get to the Olympics is called the Burundi National Olympic Committee. It was created in 1990 and officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1993.
