Wallace McArthur "Butch" Davis, born on June 19, 1958, is an American former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder, which means he played in the part of the baseball field farthest from home plate. Butch Davis played in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1983 to 1994. After his playing days, he became a baseball coach.

Starting His Professional Career
The Kansas City Royals chose Davis in the 12th round of the 1980 MLB Draft. This happened after he played college baseball at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.
Major League Teams
Davis began his Major League career with the Royals in 1983. He played for them until 1984. Later, he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1987. He also played for the Baltimore Orioles from 1988 to 1989. In 1991, he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His last teams were the Texas Rangers from 1993 to 1994.
Early Success and Minor League Play
Butch Davis had a great start in his first 33 games. He hit for a high batting average and showed a lot of power. However, he didn't quite match those numbers in his later seasons. Besides the Major Leagues, Davis also spent 13 seasons playing in the Minor Leagues. There, he had a strong batting average and stole many bases. He also played winter baseball in Venezuela during the 1991–1992 season.
Coaching Baseball: After Playing
After his playing career, Butch Davis became a baseball coach. He spent a long time as a hitting coach for the Baltimore Orioles' minor league teams. A hitting coach helps players improve how they bat.
Coaching Roles and Teams
Davis coached for the Double-A Bowie Baysox in several different years. He also worked as an instructor for outfielders and bunting (a special way to hit the ball) from 2007 to 2012. He even got to be a manager for two minor league teams. He managed the Gulf Coast League Orioles from 1997 to 1998. Then, he managed the Class-A Delmarva Shorebirds in 1999.
Coaching in Major League Baseball
On December 1, 2014, Davis became the first base coach for the Minnesota Twins. He worked with manager Paul Molitor. He stayed with the Twins until the end of the 2016 season. Later, in 2018, Davis became the hitting coach for the Norfolk Tides. This team is the Orioles' top minor league team. Before the 2020 season, he was named the fundamentals coach for the Bowie Baysox.
