Columbus Lorenzo Whittington (born August 1, 1952) is a former American football player and coach. He is often called C. L. Whittington. He played as a defensive back for the Houston Oilers in the National Football League (NFL). After his playing days, he became a football coach. He even served as the head coach for Prairie View A&M University for one season. Today, he coaches defensive backs at Hallsville High School.

C. L. Whittington grew up in a city called Beaumont, Texas. When he was in high school, he went to Charlton-Pollard High School. This is where he likely started playing football and showing his skills.
Playing Football
Whittington played college football at Prairie View A&M University. He was part of their team from 1970 to 1973. During his time there, he played under different head coaches each year. These coaches included Alexander Durley, Jim Hillyer, Theophilus Danzy, and Cornelius Cooper.
