Caldwell is located in the northwest part of Burleson County. Two main roads, Texas State Highway 21 and Texas State Highway 36, pass near the city. Highway 21 connects Caldwell to Bryan (about 23 miles northeast) and Bastrop (about 50 miles southwest). Highway 36 goes northwest to Milano (16 miles) and southeast to Brenham (32 miles).
Caldwell covers an area of about 10.2 square kilometers (3.9 square miles). Only a very small part of this area is water.
