Camp Lazlo (also known as CAMP LAZLO!) is a fun animated TV show from America. It was created by Joe Murray for Cartoon Network. The show is about a silly spider monkey named Lazlo. He goes to a summer camp called Camp Kidney. This camp is a lot like a Boy Scout camp.

Lazlo lives in the "Jelly Bean" cabin with his friends. These friends are Raj, an Indian elephant, and Clam, a small pygmy rhinoceros. Lazlo often has funny disagreements with his camp leader, Scoutmaster Lumpus. He also has issues with Lumpus's helper, Slinkman, and other campers. Camp Kidney is across a lake from Acorn Flats. This is where the Squirrel Scouts, an all-girl camp, stay. Camp Lazlo was one of the first Cartoon Network shows made for widescreen TVs.

The show was made by Cartoon Network Studios. It has a similar type of humor to Rocko's Modern Life, another show Joe Murray worked on. Camp Lazlo first aired on Cartoon Network on July 8, 2005. It ran for five seasons, with 61 episodes. There was also a special hour-long TV movie called Where's Lazlo?. The last episode aired on March 27, 2008. The series won several awards, including three Emmy Awards. It also had DVDs, video games, and other fun stuff.

Discover the World of Camp Lazlo

Meet the Characters and Their Adventures

The show takes place in a world where only anthropomorphic animals live. This means animals that act like humans. The main story follows three campers at a poorly run summer camp called Camp Kidney.

  • Lazlo: He's the main character, an energetic and hopeful spider monkey.
  • Raj: He's a shy Indian elephant and one of Lazlo's best friends.
  • Clam: He's a quiet pygmy rhinoceros, also one of Lazlo's friends.

These three friends have many strange and funny adventures together.

Other important characters include:

  • Scoutmaster Lumpus: A selfish and grumpy moose who leads the camp.
  • Slinkman: His calm assistant, who is a banana slug.
  • Edward: A grumpy platypus camper.
  • Chip and Skip: Two not-so-smart dung beetles who love dirt.
  • Samson: A clumsy and nerdy Guinea pig.

Across the lake, there's a rival camp for girls called Acorn Flats. The main girls there are:

  • Patsy: An adventurous mongoose who really likes Lazlo.
  • Gretchen: A short-tempered alligator.
  • Nurse Leslie: A pink nurse shark who is a doctor.
  • Nina: A smart giraffe who loves sci-fi.
  • Miss Doe: A female deer who is the head of Acorn Flats. Scoutmaster Lumpus likes her a lot.

Joe Murray, the creator, said he picked animals for characters based on their personalities. Some episodes show the Bean Scouts trying to find out about camp legends. Other times, they just mess around and get into funny situations. These situations are often based on camp activities.

Explore the Unique Camp Settings

The places in Camp Lazlo were designed to feel like a real summer camp. They want to make you feel comfortable and happy. The colors in the show are special. They make you feel like summer, even if they aren't real-life colors. For example, the sky might be yellow, and trees might not always be green.

The creator, Joe Murray, wanted to make a place where nature is important. He wanted to show a place without busy city life or too much technology. He described the camp as having a "retro" feel. He liked designs from the 1950s and early 1960s, like old advertisements and vacation brochures.

Camp Kidney: Home of the Bean Scouts

Camp Kidney is located in the Pimpleback Mountains, next to Leakey Lake. This is where most of the show happens. It's a summer camp for a group of boy scouts called The Bean Scouts. The campers name their cabins after different types of beans, like Jelly Cabin or Pinto Cabin. Camp Kidney isn't known for being very fancy. It has even been close to closing down many times! Scoutmaster Lumpus leads the camp, and Mr. Slinkman helps him with everything.

Acorn Flats: The Squirrel Scouts' Camp

Acorn Flats is across the lake from Camp Kidney. It's a camp for girls of a similar age, called the Squirrel Scouts. Acorn Flats has much nicer facilities than Camp Kidney. This often causes some friendly competition between the two camps. Jane Doe leads the Squirrel Scouts, and Ms. Rubella Mucus is her assistant. Both Camp Kidney and Acorn Flats are part of a bigger organization. Commander Hoo-ha is in charge of them.

Prickly Pines: The Nearby Town

Prickly Pines is a town close to both camps. It has everything you might need, like a post office, restaurants, and a laundromat.
