Carlos Hyde (born September 20, 1990) is an American former professional football player. He was a talented running back in the National Football League (NFL). Carlos played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The San Francisco 49ers picked him in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft.

Early Life and High School Football
Carlos Hyde grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. He went to Princeton High School for his first year. Then, he moved to Naples, Florida, and finished high school at Naples High School.
As a senior, Carlos was a star on the football team. He ran for 1,653 yards and scored 16 touchdowns. Both the Naples Daily News and the Ft. Myers News-Press named him Player of the Year. He helped his team win a state championship in 2007. Carlos also played basketball and ran track. He even spent time helping younger kids in elementary school.
Many colleges wanted Carlos to play for them. He was considered one of the best fullbacks in the country. He chose to go to Ohio State University. He had offers from other big schools like the University of Florida and the University of Miami.
College Football Career
Carlos started at Ohio State in January 2010. For his first two seasons, he was a backup running back. He learned a lot during this time.
In his junior year, Carlos really shined. He ran for 970 yards and scored 16 rushing touchdowns. He did this even though he missed two games because of an ankle injury. He was named second-team All-Big Ten Conference that year.
Carlos had high hopes for his senior season. He missed the first three games of the season. When he returned, he played incredibly well. He finished the season with 1,282 yards and 14 touchdowns. This was over his last eight games.
On October 5, Carlos had a huge game against Northwestern. He ran for 168 yards and scored three touchdowns. Later, on November 16, he set a season high. He rushed for 246 yards and four touchdowns against Illinois. He then ran for 226 yards and a touchdown against Michigan. Carlos was chosen for the first-team All-Big Ten. He was also named a third-team All-American by the Associated Press.

San Francisco 49ers
Carlos played for the 49ers from 2014 to 2017.
2014 Season with the 49ers
Carlos joined a team that already had many good running backs. But injuries to other players helped him move up. He became the backup running back behind Frank Gore. In his first game against the Dallas Cowboys, Carlos ran for 50 yards and scored a touchdown. He finished his first season with 333 rushing yards and four touchdowns. He missed the last two games due to injuries.
2015 Season with the 49ers
After Frank Gore left, Carlos became the main running back for the 49ers. In the first game of the season, he had his best game yet. He ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings. One touchdown came after an amazing spin move!
However, Carlos fractured his foot during a game in Week 5. He tried to play through the injury but had to stop in Week 8. He needed surgery and missed the rest of the season. He finished with 470 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
2016 Season with the 49ers
Carlos was a key player for the 49ers offense in 2016. The team's new coach, Chip Kelly, liked to run the ball a lot. In the first game, Carlos had a great performance. He ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams.
In Week 3, Carlos had another strong game against the Seattle Seahawks. He ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns. He continued to play well in the following weeks. Carlos suffered a shoulder injury in Week 6 and missed two games.
Later in the season, Carlos had a huge game against the New York Jets. He ran for 193 yards and also caught a touchdown pass. He started 13 games in 2016. He finished the season with 988 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. He also had 163 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns. Carlos was named an alternate for the Pro Bowl. Unfortunately, he was placed on injured reserve in December after an MCL injury.
2017 Season with the 49ers
Before the 2017 season, Carlos worked hard to get in great shape. He lost weight and felt faster than ever. He said, "This is the lightest I've been since high school, I'm in the best shape of my life right now."
In Week 2, Carlos led the offense against the Seahawks. He ran for 102 yards in the first half, including a career-long 61-yard run. He finished the game with 124 rushing yards. This made him the first running back to rush for over 100 yards in back-to-back road games in Seattle since 2010.
Carlos played in all 16 games in 2017. He finished the season with 940 rushing yards and a career-high 350 receiving yards. He also scored a career-high eight rushing touchdowns. Other NFL players ranked him 97th on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2018 list.
Cleveland Browns
On March 15, 2018, Carlos Hyde signed a three-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. In his first game with the Browns, he ran for 62 yards and a touchdown. This helped the Browns tie the game against the Steelers.
On his 28th birthday, September 20, Carlos had a very special day. His girlfriend was having their first child. He went from the hospital to the Browns' game against the Jets. Carlos ran for 97 yards and two touchdowns, including the winning score! The Browns won 21–17, their first win in 19 games. After the game, Carlos went back to the hospital to welcome his son.
Jacksonville Jaguars (First Time)
In October 2018, the Browns traded Carlos to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He shared the running back duties with Leonard Fournette and T. J. Yeldon. Carlos finished the 2018 season with 571 rushing yards and five touchdowns. The Jaguars released him in March 2019.
Kansas City Chiefs
Carlos signed a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in March 2019.
Houston Texans
On August 31, 2019, Carlos was traded to the Houston Texans. He quickly made an impact. In Week 6, he ran for 116 yards and a touchdown against his former team, the Chiefs.
In Week 9, Carlos had a huge game against the Jaguars in London. He finished with 160 rushing yards. Overall, in the 2019 season, Carlos had a fantastic year. He rushed for 1,070 yards and six touchdowns.
Carlos played in his first NFL playoff game in 2019. He helped the Texans win against the Bills in overtime. He rushed for 48 yards and caught a five-yard touchdown pass.
Seattle Seahawks
Carlos signed with the Seattle Seahawks on May 28, 2020. In his first game with the Seahawks, he scored his first rushing touchdown for the team. He finished the 2020 season with 356 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Jacksonville Jaguars (Second Time)
On March 17, 2021, Carlos signed a two-year contract to return to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He reunited with his former college coach, Urban Meyer. Carlos was the backup running back to James Robinson. He suffered a concussion in Week 14 and was placed on injured reserve. He finished the season with 253 rushing yards and one touchdown in 12 games. The Jaguars released him in March 2022.
