Cayuta Creek (say "Kay-YOO-tuh") is a cool waterway that flows into the Susquehanna River. It travels through parts of New York state and Pennsylvania.
This creek is about 35 miles (56 kilometers) long. It starts its journey from a pretty spot called Cayuta Lake. People sometimes call this lake "Little Lake." It's located near a town called Alpine in Catharine.

Cayuta Creek's Journey
Starting in New York
The creek begins its flow from Cayuta Lake in eastern Schuyler County. From there, it heads mostly southeast. It runs alongside New York State Route 224, passing by places like Alpine Junction and the small village of Cayuta.
Next, Cayuta Creek crosses into Chemung County. Here, it flows right through the village of Van Etten.
Heading South
After Van Etten, the creek makes a turn and starts flowing southward. It goes through the western edge of Tioga County. Along this path, it passes through small communities like Lockwood and Reniff, which are in the town of Barton.
The creek also flows through the eastern part of the village of Waverly. In Waverly, it even goes under a big road called the Southern Tier Expressway.
Reaching Pennsylvania
Right after passing under the highway, Cayuta Creek crosses the state line into Pennsylvania. It enters the borough of Sayre.
The creek then continues to flow southeast through a part of Sayre called Milltown. Finally, it empties its waters into the much larger Susquehanna River.
Fun Things to Do
There's a great hiking trail along the gorge near Alpine, where the creek starts. This trail is about 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) long.
It's a really beautiful place to visit, especially in the summer and fall when the leaves change colors. The trail is quite easy to walk, with only small ups and downs, so it's perfect for a fun outdoor adventure!
