Central Delhi is an important administrative district in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, India. It is located in the heart of Delhi. The Yamuna River forms its eastern border. Other districts like North Delhi, West Delhi, South West Delhi, and New Delhi surround it. East Delhi is also nearby, across the Yamuna.
This district is divided into three smaller areas. These are called Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, and Kotwali, Delhi. Central Delhi is a busy place with many businesses. It also has tall buildings.
In 2011, about 582,320 people lived here. The district covers an area of about 25 square kilometers. This means many people live close together. Central Delhi is home to Shahjahanabad, also known as Old Delhi. This historic area was once the capital of the Mughal Empire. You can find famous landmarks here. These include the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid. The Jama Masjid is Delhi's main mosque.
