Cetiosauriscus (say "SEE-tee-oh-SAWR-iss-kuss") is a type of dinosaur called a sauropod. Sauropods were very large, long-necked, plant-eating dinosaurs. This dinosaur lived about 166 to 164 million years ago. This was during a time called the Middle Jurassic period. Its fossils were found in what is now England.

When it was first discovered, people thought Cetiosauriscus was another similar sauropod called Cetiosaurus. But later, scientists realized it was a different kind of dinosaur.

How Cetiosauriscus Was Found

Cetiosauriscus was discovered in May 1898. It was found by workers digging for clay near Peterborough, England. This area is known for its many fossils.

The rocks where the dinosaur was found are called the Oxford Clay. These rocks formed from mud and sand at the bottom of an ancient ocean. They are famous for holding many fossils of sea creatures and dinosaurs from the Jurassic period. Scientists who study fossils are called palaeontologists. They have learned a lot about ancient life from places like the Oxford Clay.
