Chalkyitsik (pronounced CHAL-key-IT-sick) is a small community in Alaska, United States. Its name comes from the Gwich'in language and means "to fish with a hook, at the mouth of the creek." This village is located on the south bank of the Draanjik River (also known as the Black River), about 45 miles northeast of Fort Yukon. In 2020, only 56 people lived there.

Where is Chalkyitsik?
Chalkyitsik is located in a remote part of Alaska at 66°39′6″N 143°43′38″W / 66.65167°N 143.72722°W. The area covers about 8.7 square miles (22.69 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small amount of water from rivers and lakes. The village is situated far north, close to the Arctic Circle.

Chalkyitsik first appeared on the U.S. Census in 1930. Back then, it was called Fishhook, which is what its native name means. It was officially named Chalkyitsik in 1960.
In 2000, there were 83 people living in Chalkyitsik. Most of the people were Native American. About 25% of the households had children under 18 living with them. The average household had about 2 to 3 people.
The population in 2000 was spread out by age:

- 13.3% were between 18 and 24 years old.
- 28.9% were between 25 and 44 years old.

Getting Around
Chalkyitsik has its own small airport, called Chalkyitsik Airport. It serves the community with one commercial airline. Because there are so few residents, Chalkyitsik has one of the lowest numbers of residents per airline in the United States.
