Chanhassen is a city in Minnesota, located about 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Minneapolis. Most of the city is in Carver County, but a small part is in Hennepin County. It's a mix of suburban homes and rural areas. In 2020, about 25,947 people lived there.

History of Chanhassen
The name Chanhassen comes from the Dakota language. The word chanhasen means "sugar-maple tree." The city of Chanhassen joined with Chanhassen Township in 1967. This merger brought the population up to 4,200 people.

Chanhassen covers about 22.88 square miles (59.06 sq km). Most of this area is land, and a smaller part is water. Even though Chanhassen is mainly in Carver County, a small section reaches into Hennepin County.

Many lakes in Chanhassen are great for fishing all year round. You can fish during warm months or go ice fishing when the lakes freeze. Both Lake Minnewashta and Lake Ann have large northern pike, which are a fun challenge for anglers.
