Channapatna is a city in the state of Karnataka, India. It is located in the Bengaluru South District. The city is about 60 kilometers (37 miles) from Bangalore and 80 kilometers (50 miles) from Mysore. Channapatna is famous for its special wooden toys. The actor Kishore was born here in 1974.

Channapatna is found at an average height of 739 meters (2,424 feet) above sea level. It sits right on the main highway that connects Bangalore and Mysore. This makes it easy to reach from both big cities.

Channapatna's Famous Toys
Channapatna is often called the "Town of Toys" (Gombegala Nagara). This is because it is very famous for its beautiful wooden toys and lacquerware. These toys are made in small factories and workshops, using both old traditions and new methods.
The history of these toys goes back a long time. It is said that Tipu Sultan, a famous ruler, invited skilled workers from Persia. He wanted them to teach local artists how to make these special wooden toys.
Today, these toys are so unique and important that they have a special tag called a Geographical Indication. This tag means the toys are known for coming from this specific place. Besides toys, Channapatna also produces raw silk, rice, ragi (a type of grain), and coconut.
