Charles Henry Muir (born July 18, 1860 – died December 8, 1933) was an important major general in the United States Army. He was a soldier for many years. He served in several big conflicts. These included the American Indian Wars, the Spanish–American War, and World War I.

Charles Muir's Military Journey
Charles Muir started his military career at a young age. He became a respected leader in the United States Army. His journey took him through different wars and important roles.
Early Years and Training
Charles Muir joined the United States Military Academy in 1881. This famous school is in West Point, New York. He worked hard and graduated in 1885. He was one of the top students in his class.
After graduating, Muir became a second lieutenant. He was sent to places like Dakota Territory and Fort D.A. Russell in Wyoming. He was also a very good shot. In 1890, he was the best on the Army Rifle Team. In 1895, he finished first in his class at the Infantry and Cavalry School. This school is in Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

Muir's skills were tested in several wars. He showed great bravery and leadership.
Spanish-American War Hero
Muir was sent to Cuba during the Spanish–American War. He earned the Distinguished Service Cross. This award is for extreme bravery in battle. On July 2, 1898, he bravely faced enemy fire. He helped silence a Spanish artillery gun. This action was during the Battle of Santiago de Cuba.
Adventures in the Philippines
In 1899, Muir was promoted to Captain, then to Major. He was sent to the Philippines. There, he worked with Brigadier general Robert Henry Hall. On January 19, 1900, Muir led a small group of soldiers. They attacked the headquarters of General Miguel Malvar. They forced Malvar and his men to leave. Muir's unit also found a large amount of money. They also freed 300 Spanish prisoners.
Working at the General Staff
From 1903 to 1907, Muir worked in Washington, D.C.. He was part of the general staff. This group helps plan and organize the army's operations.
Leading in World War I
During World War I, Charles Muir became a Major General. He took on very important leadership roles.
Commanding Divisions and Corps
From December 1917 to October 1918, Muir led the 28th Infantry Division. After that, he commanded the IV Corps. He led this group until April 1919. Then, he again led the 28th Division. He brought them back to the United States after the war. The division was then reorganized.
Leading a Top Military College
After the war, from July 1919 to August 1920, Major General Muir had another important job. He was the Commandant of the United States Army Command and General Staff College. This college trains future army leaders. His last job was at the War Department in Washington, D.C. He then retired from the Army.
