Charlie Day (born February 9, 1976) is a talented American actor, writer, and producer. He is famous for playing Charlie Kelly in the TV show It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also helps write and produce this show.

You might know his voice from popular animated movies. He voiced Art in Monsters University and Benny in The Lego Movie series. He also brought the character Luigi to life in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Charlie Day has also starred in movies like Pacific Rim and Horrible Bosses. In 2023, he directed his first movie, Fool's Paradise.

Early Life and Education

Charlie Day was born in New York City on February 9, 1976. He grew up mostly in Middletown, Rhode Island. His father, Thomas Charles Day, was a music history professor. His mother, Mary, taught music.

Charlie went to Pennfield School and Portsmouth Abbey School. After that, he studied at Merrimack College. He majored in art history and was very active in the school's theater group. He graduated in 1998. In 2014, Merrimack College gave him an honorary Ph.D.

Starting His Career

While still in college, Charlie spent summers at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. There, he worked with other actors like Jimmi Simpson and Kathryn Hahn. He even played the main role in a play called Dead End in Boston.

After college, Charlie took on small TV roles and did voiceovers. He also worked as a waiter to earn money. In the early 2000s, he appeared on shows like Law & Order and Third Watch.

In 2001, Charlie met actress Mary Elizabeth Ellis. They started dating and later worked together on Reno 911!. Mary Elizabeth Ellis also plays The Waitress on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Charlie and Mary Elizabeth got married on March 4, 2006. They have one son, who was born in December 2011. They live in Los Angeles, California.
